Eco Boulevard Vallecas, Spain

This has been one of the most searched projects on the Internet last year and the previous year, due to innovation and the proposed playground areas.

The Bioclimatic Boulevard of the Eixample  Valleca or “Eco-Valley Boulevard” is part of the new district of Madrid, which was promoted as an innovative residential project by the City of Madrid and through the European initiative Verandahways Mediterranean Eco-Valley.

It was thanks to a contest of the City of Madrid, won by the architects of Urban Ecosystem (Belinda Tato + José Luis Vallejo + Setién Diego Garcia), this presents the construction of three large cylinders aligned, forming a fun ride in between a barren and desolate urban landscape; Each of these cylinders works just like a tree, being able to regulate the atmosphere of its interior spaces, housing a number of programs and activities of various kinds.

There are two types of trees, two media trees and a Ludic tree, with the idea of these 3 “Air Tree” to be used to temporarily replenish the desert landscape in which are inserted through the adjacent space humidification and air movement .

The most interesting thing about sustainability is that trees are made with 90% recycled materials like rubber floors, steel structures and concrete, this with the use of renewable energy from the sun, using solar panels that are on top, providing electricity to operate them.

These pavilions, besides not generate greater ecological footprint, contribute to regenerate and purify up to 11 tons of greenhouse gases. “Its features make this boulevard Avenue of Nature a revolution” since they are meeting places for citizens to make Madrid a city “more sustainable and balanced”.

When the surrounding vegetation is regenerated by these trees, these must be transported to another place in the country and continue their work.

Hopefully we will see a similar major environmental urban regeneration project soon until then we have a great example here.
